Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 ⅔ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon optional
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cardamom optional
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg optional
  • teaspoon ground cloves optional
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda

Wet Ingredients

  • 8 tablespoons melted or browned butter slightly cooled
  • ¾ cup packed dark brown sugar
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Chocolate

  • 8 ounces dark chocolate feves (60 to 70% cacao) or high-quality dark chocolate chopped ¼- to ½-inch pieces
  • Flaky sea salt for garnish

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Arrange a rack in the middle of the oven and heat the oven to 350°F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Whisk the dry ingredients together in a medium bowl.
  • Beat the wet ingredients together in a mixer until just combined, then add the dry mixture gradually.
  • Portion the cookie dough into balls and place them on baking sheets, then sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
  • Bake until edges are set, about 10 minutes, then let cool for 20 minutes.
