Ingredients
  

Butter and Herbs

  • ½ cup butter room temperature
  • 4 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 tablespoons parsley chopped leaves or 2 teaspoons dried
  • 1 tablespoon basil chopped fresh leaves or 1 teaspoon dried

Bread

  • 1 loaf Italian bread crusty or baguette

Preparation

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Combine the butter, garlic, parsley, and basil in a small bowl and stir to mix well.
  • Slice the loaf of bread lengthwise and place the bread on a large baking sheet. Divide the herb butter over the bread and spread with a spatula to the edges of each sliced half.
  • Slice the buttered bread into individual pieces.
  • Bake for 15 minutes until the butter has melted and the edges of the bread are toasted and golden.

Notes

Use salted butter to make this recipe. If using unsalted butter, finish with a sprinkling of kosher salt before baking. For a deeper brown, broil for about one minute at the end of baking time, watching closely to avoid burning.
