Ingredients
  

Base Ingredients

  • 2 boxes frozen pierogi 16 oz each
  • 1 pound kielbasa smoked sausage, sliced
  • 1 medium yellow onion diced
  • 2 tablespoons butter for sautéing
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ cup milk can substitute with chicken broth
  • ½ teaspoon sea salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 3 cups shredded cheddar cheese divided

Preparation Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.
  • Spray a casserole dish or 13 x 9 inch pan with non stick cooking spray.
  • Sauté the onion in melted butter over medium heat until soft. Set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, mix the cream cheese, sour cream, milk, salt, pepper and garlic powder until well blended. Add 1 cup cheese.
  • Place frozen pierogi into prepared baking dish, and add the sliced smoked sausage.
  • Spoon onions over pierogi, and spoon sauce over pierogi mixture.
  • Top with remaining shredded cheese. Spray 1 side of a sheet of aluminum foil with non stick spray, and loosely cover casserole with foil.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes covered.
  • Remove foil, and bake for 10-15 minutes longer or until pierogi are fork tender and internal temperature is 160 degrees F.
  • Remove from oven and allow to sit for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

This recipe uses 2 boxes of frozen pierogi. You can halve the recipe for 1 box. Use your favorite cheese here or use a combination. We like cheddar/Colby.
